The Beauty That Is Ilkley

Ilkley is an Idyllic Roman Spa Town in the heart of The Yorkshire Dales, whether your coming for a relaxing stay or more of an active break Ilkley has lots to offer you.

Yorkshire Trike Tours

Yorkshire Trike Tours offers a uniquely exhilarating way to experience the Yorkshire  Dales at their finest, on the back of  a ‘Billy Connolly’ style motor trike. A choice of thirty well designed routes totally put visitors in touch with the fabulous landscape, in a way that cannot be achieved in a closed vehicle.

The owners, Judith and Jason Richards, are professional, enthusiastic and committed to ensuring everyone has a superb time on tour. Carefully chosen refreshment stops, wet weather clothing and onboard intercom helmet  commentary from knowledgeable driver tour guides, plus the fun of an unusual mode of transport make for an unforgettable trip. Even the en route toilets have been thoroughly researched!

The Millenium Maize

The maze has a theme of progression through time from pre-history to modern day.

The start of the maze is a standing stone with some of the symbols from the moors carved on it. The end point is another stone carved in the shape of an old Saxon cross. Although this is an old design, it represents a progression from the earlier time and on to the introduction of Christianity to the area.
The maze is in a small public park on the edge of both the tow and the moor and has free parking.

Ilkley Lido & Pool

The Lido was designed by Archibald (Archie) Skinner Ilkley’s Surveyor & Water Engineer. It was opened in May 1935 as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations for King George V. It has remained open since then from May to September each year and has attracted up to 150,000 visits per year (very variable dependant on weather).

It was designed with a large shallow area for children and to encourage beginners, and this shallow area was also to benefit from the heat of the sun. The deep area was suitable for water polo. There was a standard diving board at 14’ 6″ and a small baby chute. These unfortunately have had to be removed to adhere to current health and safety legislation.

Ilkley Golf Club

If you are playing golf in Yorkshire then a visit to Ilkley is a must. Nestled in the beautiful Wharfe Valley with the famous Moor as a backdrop, Ilkley is one of the most picturesque courses in the country.

However golfers must not be fooled by its beauty, as the River Wharfe is an ever-present threat for the first seven holes of this tree-lined course.

With a par of 69 and a standard scratch of 70, the 6276-yard course is a great deal more difficult than it might first appear. Testament to this is the fact that the course record for a professional is 64 and was set by Honorary Life Member Colin Montgomerie in 2000, when he was one of the finest golfers in the world.

From the man himself Colin Montgomerie

“Although I have played golf on the finest courses in the world, Ilkley Golf Club will always have a special place in my heart. The course combines a challenging test of golf with breathtaking scenery and it is always a pleasure to play there.”
